Rules

Every society requires a certain amount of rules to survive.  Some rules we like, some we don't, and some rules we simply tolerate.  Each sim has it's own set of rules as well, being a microcosm of the whole, and each sim owner is free to make his or her own rules in accordance with the general LL terms of service.  Sim owners are also allowed to make up temporary rules as needed.  At a previously owned sim I had a complaint about a 17 day old nubie who wouldn't lose his erection even though other guests repeatedly told him to. When I showed up he argued with me that it did not specifically state in the rules that he couldn't have one so I was out of line and he would keep his erection, thank you very much.  When I ejected him he said he was going to file an AR against me.  I'm still waiting to hear from LL about that.

At Su Casa we have rules as well.  We've tried to keep these to a minimum as no one likes a long list of draconian regulations they are suppose to follow.  We say simply no harassment and no sexual behavior, with an added note about child avatars.  We believe that these rules are meant to make your stay here as pleasant as possible.

I recently visited a sim with a short list of rules as well although I don't agree with all of them.  I acknowledge that the sim owner has every right to make them as he pleases and I know that he doesn't particularly agree with Su Casa rules either, so I guess we are even.  A couple of things struck me though, and I may be dead wrong about them and, if so, I'll apologize.  One was that due to it being a naturist sim, nudity was required at all times, just like in real life when visiting a naturist venue.  I've been to a number of naturist venues in RL ranging from beaches, official and unofficial, to resorts and B&Bs.  I cannot remember any occasion except one where there was not a mix of dressed, or partial dressed, and nudes.  The one exception was when my partner and I arrived early and we were the only ones there at the time.

Ok, maybe I'm splitting hairs here but this relates somewhat to another rule stating that all avatars must be "in proportion", just like in real life, which somehow misses part of the whole point of SL.   At one of the above mentioned B&Bs there was a woman who would not get undressed for any reason whatsoever.  When I wondered aloud as to why I was told that she had recently undergone a double mastectomy.  I guess, even with her being a true naturist, she would not be allowed on that particular sim with two rules broken.  Pity.

  1. Well, I'm glad we agree that each of us can set our own rules. :-)

I spent about an hour and a half writing a lengthy, brilliantly worded (if I do say so myself) and, just a smidge, angry rebuttal. Then I decided to go for brevity:

If someone doesn't want (their avatar) to be nude, they don't need to come to my sim. It's just that simple; no one's going to die from the exclusion, and I'm 100% okay with that policy. It is absolutely impossible to promote naturism with a clothed avatar.

Gray, I like you and I like Su Casa a lot. I hope that I remain welcome there and you and I continue to be amicable.
