The Trouble with Naturists

There are news reports today of an alleged gang rape at a naturist resort in Kent, England.  The incident is alleged to have happened at the Eureka Sun Club on Saturday (June 17, 2017).  According to the report the victim had been talking to several men in a vehicle before returning to her caravan (travel trailer) where the rape is said to have occurred.

Rape in any form is not to be condoned in any manner for any reason and can occur in any village, town or city any place in the world.  What I believe is significant about this instance is that the Eureka Sun Club is reputed to be a swingers resort rather than a bona fide naturist venue.   Their website lists various parties and events, including a couples and single females party.  

This does not condone the actions of the men in anyway yet draws parallels to the vast majority of Second Life naturist locations where nudity is associated with sex.  A simple search for "naturist" or "nudist" turns up descriptions of sex in all forms.  I'm certainly not naive about sex but they should really call it what it is and not promote more ignorance about true naturism.

America's nudists fear their lifestyle is in danger of disappearing because of a failure to attract naked young people. Membership of the two main nudist organizations has been sliding for years and nudist resorts are finding that younger people aren't so keen on spending their vacations around naked Baby Boomers. "It's not that I have anything against old people," one 22-year-old tells the Wall Street Journal. "I just don't really want to hang out with them at the pool."

"The problem is, most of these resorts aren't geared to young people," the head of the Naturist Society says. "They've become like retirement homes; they've sort of calcified." Numerous groups exclusively for young nudists have sprung up, however, and established nudist societies are going all-out to attract younger members with events like reverse strip poker night, naked volleyball tournaments, and the music festivals Nudepalooza and Nudestock.

Leaders want topless sunbathing in L.A.'s Venice Beach

Looks like the Puritans will win another round! The close minded Mayor will ignore the wishes of his own neighborhood council.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Leaders in the Los Angeles beach district of Venice have asked that women be allowed to sunbathe topless on the beach, saying they want equality and a more European feel at the popular tourist destination, local media reported on Wednesday. The Venice Neighborhood Council voted 12-2 to approve the recommendation, saying it "supports women being afforded the same rights as men to sunbathe topless," according to Los Angeles Times and local KTLA-TV news. The council also noted that Venice Beach, known for its boardwalk of shops and offbeat character, was founded and designed after Venice, Italy, and cultivated a more European sensibility. The recommendation will be sent to the Los Angeles City Council and Mayor Eric Garcetti for consideration. A spokesman for Mayor Garcetti appeared to pour cold water on the idea. "I think it's safe to say that most of our constituents would rather we keep our eyes on more pressing problems facing our city," said Yusef Robb, the mayor's director of communications. Topless sunbathing is legal on a number of California beaches but barred in Los Angeles County, where a local ordinance prohibits the display of genitals or "any portion of the (female) breast at or below the upper edge of the aureola".

Bring a towel and careful where you sit!

 

South Africa’s first official nude beach opens this weekend on Mpenjati Beach on South Africa’s east coast.  Many locals including religious groups have complained, as one would expect, and police have had to be reminded of the local council’s ruling that set up the beach so they don't arrest everyone.  According to a story in the South Africa Times Live, from last December, when the ordinance was passed, beach goers will have been warned to cover any unexpected erection and certainly never dance provocatively or sit on anyone’s genitals.  Story Here  and Here.

Ebola Panic Grips Nude Beach

These Canary Islands revelers in their birthday suits sure wished they had hazmat suits.

Nudists were shocked when a group of migrants arrived on their Gran Canaria beach and were described as having Ebola-like symptoms,  Metro U K reported.

Some of the 19 migrants were from Sierra Leone and Guinea, two of the West African countries ravaged by the deadly disease. They were looking for a better future in Spain.

The migrants were kept in a pseudo-quarantine until a dump truck took them away to be processed. The startled nudists were kept at bay during the tense episode.

Four of the migrants were taken to a hospital, but none of the 19 was found to have Ebola.

The beach, Maspalomas, can only be reached by walking across sand dunes for 2 miles.

San Bartolome Mayor Marco Aurelio Perez told Spanish newspaper El Mundo that the island is an “established destination” for migrants.

 “Unfortunately, illegal immigration has become a common sight in the West,” Perez said.

Voyeur Arrested by Nudists

 
Up to 10 nudists chased down a naked man on South Australia's Maslin Beach after he was spotted with a camera hidden inside his esky. It was claimed the man, thought to be in his 40s or 50s and wearing only an Akubra hat, was seen positioning his esky to face other unclad people on the nudist section of the iconic beach. A woman reportedly walked past and saw a wooden contraption inside his esky with a video camera set up to film though holes.

According the the Australian news site, ABC, the man was placed a citizen's arrest as a voyeur.  The police were called but there was not sufficient evidence to charge him.

Nudist expo bares all in naked tourist industry

In its first annual nudist trade show in Las Vegas 22 vendors from resorts, travel agents and companies that cater to naturists showed their wares and tried to reach new customers who may think naked holidaymakers are only aging hippies or swingers.
"Naturists" -- the industry's preferred term --is more than just folks running around in the buff and sunbathing at nudist-only resorts, say insiders. According to the American Association of Nude Recreation, clothing-optional tourism is a $440 million-per-annum industry that includes everything from cruises, organized tours and more 250 resorts and clubs nationwide.

Spain Prevails! Florida Fails!!

Recently I wrote about Florida's November attempt to break the world record for the most number of skinny dippers in one location. From what I know about breaking world records, all the i's have to be dotted, all the t's have to be crossed, and any proof has to be verified and re-verified before anyone can claim to hold or break a world record.

It's now official... Florida failed to beat the world record.  However, if you live in New Zealand, you can be part of a New Year's Eve attempt to break Spain's record. Good Luck Skinny Dippers in New Zealand!!!

Speaking of records, here are some skinny dipper records made, broken or attempted: 

 729 Naked Swimmers, Vera, Spain, Playa El  Playazo, 22nd of July 2013. This is an official, verified World Record.

 805 Naked Swimmers, Haulover Beach, Florida, 3rd of November, 2013 attempted to break the previous record set by the swimmers at Vera, Spain. I expect this to be verified by Guinness in the future if the organizers of this event crossed all their t's and dotted their i's as required.

  13,674  participants is recorded as the largest skinny dipping event organized by AANR - American Association for Nude Recreation across multiple locations in the USA, on 11 July 2008.

I wonder what kind of records could we break at Su Casa Naturist Resort in Second Life?
